The Caribbean National Forest is commonly known as only E Yunque. It was named after the Taíno Indian spirit Yuquiyú.
For the Taíno aborigines, the Luquillo Mountain Range was a sacred place. The word "Yuke" means white lands in reference to the mountain tops which are usually covered, by clouds. Taino petrogliphs are sprinkled thruoghout the sacred Luquillo muontain range.
