El Yunque National Forest, formerly know as the Caribbean National Forest is located in the rugged Sierra de Luquillo, 40 km southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

      The forest covers land of the municipalities of Canóvanas, Las Piedras, Luquillo, Fajardo, Ceiba, Naguado and Río Grande.

       El Yunque encompasse 28,002 acers of land, making it the largest block of public land on the island. El Toro, the highest mountain peak in the forest rises 1,078 meters (3,537 ft) above sea level.
