El Yunque is home to many species of animals. At the Rain Forest there 50 species of birds, 11 species of bats, 8 species of lizards, and 13 species of coquí. At El Yunque you can find over 1,200 species of insects, 10 aquatic invertabrates, 7 species of fish, 9 species of freshwater crab. Also found, but very rare are the Puerto Rican Parrot.
