The heavy rainfall and the warm climate of El Yunque have create a dense evergreen forest containig 240 native tree species (26 found only at El Yunque), and masses of vines, 50 native orchids, epiphytes, giant ferns, and mosses. Orchids grow the trunks and branch of the trees and vines or lianas, hang or wrap around tree trunks.
Some of the species of trees that grows at El Yunque are the Tabonuco Ausubo, Yagrumo, Guaraguo, Laurel Sabino, Palo Colorado, Caimitillo Verde, Sierra Palm, and Giant Fern.
Also Orchids, Heliconias, Begonias Bromelias, and many varieties of mosses.
